Myron Lloyd 'Barney' Chapel Obituary (1941

Hastings resident Myron Lloyd 'Barney Chapel, 73, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Mary Lanning HealthCare in Hastings. A memorial service will be held 4:30pm on August 25, 2015 in the Chapel at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 621 North Lincoln Avenue, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to his family for a later designation. Myron Lloyd 'Barney' Chapel was born December 14th 1941 in rural Rooks county Kansas near the town of Stockton to Joe and Joyce Chapel. After graduating high school in Stockton, Kansas in 1961 he served in the United States Air force from April 1962 through December 1965. While in the service he married Sharon Miller of Hastings, Nebraska. A graduate of Kearney State College, Myron focused his career in the field of agricultural lending and finance with the Production Credit Association of Hastings, Wells Fargo Ag Credit of Denver, Colorado, and American Charter in Hastings. In the early 1990's he served as City Manager of the City of Stockton Kansas followed by many years of business consulting. Throughout his life he built and remodeled many of the family homes and spent time working on his acreage. Myron had a great appreciation for music and the arts. He played the trumpet and sang, instilling a love of the same in his children and grand children. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School, attending high school football games, musicals, and plays. In his spare time he appreciated traveling with his family. To Myron there was nothing better than a Colorado mountain top experience. Myron enjoyed being a husband and after retirement was the family patriarch, sharing in the joys of his four children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He had a love for nature and for all God's creatures often taking on the responsibility of new four legged family members. Forever a seeker of justice, Myron could often be found in a spirited political debate with friends and loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; and their children, Ty Chapel (and family) of Doniphan, Nebraska, Todd Chapel , Lara Chapel, Ryan and Jennifer Chapel (and family), all of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Mother, Joyce Chapel Peterson of Hastings, Nebraska; Sister, Dana and David Vavra of Doniphan; Sister in-laws, Carolyn and Larry Nowka, Connie and Tom Kubicka, Cathy Nelson, all of Hastings; Brother in-law Richard and Terri Miller of Dallas, Texas. He has been blessed by the presence of many cousins, nieces and nephews in his life. Myron was preceded in death by his father, Joe Chapel.
