Irvin E Rothfuss Obituary (1924

Hastings resident Irvin "Irv" E. Rothfuss, 91, was called to his heavenly home on December 18, 2015 at his home. At Irvin's request, there will be no visitation or Celebration of Life service. Instead of attending a funeral, he would like everyone to remember him by taking a walk or doing something that makes them aware and appreciative of all God's creations. This is what he enjoyed doing. Inurnment will be a private ceremony at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors. Dewitt Funeral Home and Cremation Services is serving his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Second Presbyterian Church or Mary Lanning Hospice in Hastings, NE. Irvin was born on a farm near Hastings, Nebraska on May 21, 1924 to John and Martha (Schminka) Rothfuss. He was baptized and confirmed at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. Irvin graduated from Juniata High School with the class of 1942. He enlisted in the United States Army in December 1944, and served at Leyte Island in the Philippines. After his honorable discharge in 1947, he attended the California Diesel School obtaining the Doctor of Motors degree. Irvin then worked for Victor Welding Co. in California. Irvin married Helen M. Blum on November 12, 1949 at the Gretna Green Wedding Chapel in Yuma, Arizona. They returned to Hastings where he worked for Hastings Utilities for 40 years, retiring in 1991 as Superintendent of the gas department. Irvin was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 11, Just for Fun Car Club, V & C Wheels and Melon Roasters Car Club. Irvin is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters, Sandra Franks and her husband Randy of Malcolm, NE, and Dana Rothfuss of Lincoln, NE; and sister, Lettie Rieber of South Gate, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edith Nowka; and two brothers, Albert Rothfuss and Martin Rothfuss.
