Hubert E. Payne Obituary (1921

Hastings resident Hubert E. Payne, 94, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Mary Lanning HealthCare. Funeral services are 10:30am, Saturday, October 3, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings with Pastor Charles Webster officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Friday, October 2, 2015 at DeWitt Funeral Home in Hastings. Burial will be at Sunset memorial Gardens with military honors by the Hastings Burial Detail. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Hastings College or the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs. Hubert E. Payne was born July 31, 1921 in North Platte, Nebraska, the son of George and Inez (Wakeman) Payne. He graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1939 and graduated from Hastings College in 1943. Hubert married Betty J. Fahrnbruch in 1943, she passed away in 1961. He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946. Hubert married Darlene Echternach on November 7, 1970 in Hastings, Nebraska. In 1953 he helped his family establish Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings, Nebraska and continued working there until 2006. Hubert was choir director at the First Christian Church and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings and the Kiwanis club. Hubert is survived by His wife, Darlene of Hastings, NE; two sons, Steve Payne and his wife Marilyn of Roseville, MN, and Paul Payne and his wife Joan of Chester, NJ; four grandchildren, Brian Payne, Dr. Rachel Payne and her fiance Kyle; Tamara Rosario and her husband Ramon; and Alex Payne; two sisters, Lois Myers, and Miriam Walstad and her husband Joseph; two brothers, Harry Payne and his wife Shirley, and Dr. Jerry Payne and his wife Pat; one brother-in-law, Don Bruhn; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willard Payne and Don Payne; and one sister, Margaret Bruhn; two sister-in-laws, Eileen Payne, and Virginia Payne; one brother-in-law, Dr. William Myers.
