Evert Boyd Paulson Obituary (1934

Hastings resident Evert Boyd Paulson, 77, died Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Good Samaritan Society Perkins Pavilion in Hastings. Boyd was born June 14, 1934 in McDonald, Kansas, the son of Evert and Grace Opal (Kelley) Paulson. His family soon moved to Colorado where Boyd graduated from Calhan High School. He went on and received an electronic degree from DeVry in Chicago, IL, a machinist operator degree from Denver University in Denver, Co., refrigeration degree from the Community College in Hastings, and a degree from the Missouri Auction School in Kansas City, MO. Boyd had lived in several cities in Colorado and worked at Alexander Film Co., helped his cousin operate a filling station, and then he bought into a motion picture film and sound lab. He moved to Hastings when he was 34 and purchased the roller skating rink which he operated for 30 years. Boyd bought and sold a number of other businesses, including a print shop, cafe, a magazine, parking lot maintenance business and property rentals. Boyd loved to fly, he soloed his first plane in 1961. He also enjoyed horse racing, while he was an official at the Centennial Race Track he developed the TV split screen replay. Boyd received a patent on this technology that is still used today. He was a member of local and national Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, National Association of Baseball Umpires, National Skating Rink Operators Association, Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, International Photographers, Police Officers Association, Elks, Eagles, and past president of the Hastings Optimist Club. Boyd is survived by his children, Evert Shane Paulson, Christopher Boyd Paulson, Melvin Westley Paulson, and LaLonda Jeanet McChesney; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carla Jean Baker; two sisters, Gwendlin Alberlin and Jean Tonberlin. Visitation Schedule In honoring Boyd's wishes for cremation there will be no viewing. Service Graveside services will be 2:00pm, Thursday at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Additional services will be held at a later date in Colorado.
