Dolores Jean "Dee" Marquardt Obituary (1930

Dolores Jean "Dee" (Burnham) Marquardt, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2017 in Mary Lanning Health Care Center in Hastings, Nebraska from complications due to pneumonia. Dolores was born April 3, 1930 in Hastings, Nebraska to Clarence and Leona Burnham. She lived a long and productive life of 87 years and 25 days. The tenth of thirteen children, Dee began her schooling when she was just four-years-old, and graduated Hastings High School at age 16. During her professional career, she was a popular and trusted employee at several area businesses, including Hested's, Mode O-'Day, Woolworth's and Allen's. With a passion for bingo, Dee was a regular player at the VFW, the Knights of Pythias and the Eagles Club. Dee volunteered at Grace United Methodist Church and served as a mentor, sponsor and mother-figure to members of the Daylight Group of AA. Dee would have proudly celebrated 32 years clean and sober in June. Dolores married Harlan Franklin Marquardt January 28, 1954 and shared their lives together for nearly 63 years. They welcomed daughters Susan Janelle in July 1955, and Janet Elaine in January 1959. Dolores is survived by daughter Susan Marquardt of Hastings; daughter Janet and Son-In-Law Walt Hansmann; granddaughter Catherine Hansmann; grandson Christopher Hansmann, wife Michelle, and great granddaughter Lillie Claire Hansmann all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother Paul Burnham of Arvada, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dolores was preceded in death by infant son Robert Thayer, Jr.; husband Harlan Franklin Marquardt; her parents Clarence and Leona Burnham; sisters Alice, Dorothy, Ida, and Katherine; brothers Carl, Charles, Clarence, Jr. Fred, Robert, Ron, and William. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Juniata United Methodist Church, 610 N Adams, in Juniata, Nebraska, with the Rev. Kent Rogers officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. DeWitt Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
