Delmer "Pete" Petersen Obituary (1929

Hastings resident Delmer "Pete" Petersen, 88, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society Perkins Pavilion. Memorial service will be 10:00 am, Friday, December 1, 2017 at All Saint's Chapel in Good Samaritan Society Hastings, Nebraska with Pastor Renee Johnson officiating. There will be no viewing or family visitation due to cremation. Private burial will take place at a later date. A Celebration of Life will follow the service at the D.A.V. Club, 302 S. Elm Ave. DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling arrangements. Please wear casual attire. Please no flowers or plants. Memorials may be given to the Shriner's Hospital, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the D.A.V. in Hastings, Nebraska. Please send memorials to P.O. Box 1201; Hastings, NE. 68902-1201. Pete was born on April 7, 1929, in Johnson County, Nebraska to Herman and Anna (Grundman) Petersen. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1948 to 1952. He served in the 1st Marine Division, 1st Engineer Battalion in Korea, and was one of the "Chosin Few". Pete married Geraldine "Jerry" Hinrichs on January 20, 1952. He worked at a variety of jobs, but spent many years in the trucking industry including several years owning his own business, P&J Trucking. Pete was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church west of Glenvil, Nebraska, and belonged to the American Legion, D.A.V., Eagles, Elks and V.F.W. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golf and Nebraska Football. Pete loved his family and time spent with friends, playing cards and drinking Korbel brandy. Pete loved life and lived it to the fullest. Pete is survived by his daughter, Tami Berndt and companion Jeff O'Donnell; sons, Jon Petersen and wife Pam and Jim Petersen and wife Dawn all of Hastings, NE; six grandchildren, Melissa Thompson and husband Adam, Greg Berndt, Alex Berndt, Jamie Petersen, Jessey Petersen, and Trev Petersen; three step-grandchildren, Amy Houston and husband Richard Dobransky, Jason Houston and wife Misty and Josh Houston and wife Jocelyn; honorary grandchild, Jordyn Melander; five great grandchildren, Lauryn Thompson, Parker Houston, Hubrey Houston, Jaxon Houston and Kallen Houston; sister, Hilda Wellensiek of Syracuse, NE; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three brothers and spouses, Elding (Sophie), Alvin (Irene), Bill (Agnes); two sisters and spouses, Elenore (George) Walters and Ruby (Keith) Hayes; and brother-in-law, Virgil Wellensiek.
