Charles Preston Oden Sr. of Lincoln, NE. passed away on March 24, 2012 at the age of 74. Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, March 30th, at Lincoln Family Funeral Care, 5844 Fremont St. 402-464-6400. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 31st, at Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd, 402-488-0948. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to St. Elizabeth Hospice. There will be a luncheon at the family home, 5611 Prescott, following the Memorial Mass. Chuck was born on June 27th 1937 in Loma Linda, CA. and was raised in Beatrice, NE. and Council Bluffs, IA. by his grandparents, Charles & Bertha Oden. Chuck loved photography and in high school he started his first business taking pictures for various groups and developing them in his basement. He joined the army in 1958 and there developed his interest and talent in the electronics field. On October 27th, 1962 he married the love of his life Judy. They started a family in Omaha, NE. and then moved to various small towns to grow their business and add to their family. In Nebraska they lived in Creighton, O'Neill, Grand Island and finally settled in Lincoln to be close to their grown children. Chuck was a business man working in the electronics field. He was an entrepreneur having many small businesses of his own. They include television repair, radio tower servicing, mobile phone company, answering service, taxi business, pager business and cellular phone business. Chuck never stopped thinking of new ways to be in the ever changing electronics industry. Chuck was a loyal and loving husband. He loved his children, grandchildren, and his dog, Suki. Even in his later years he never stopped pursuing new interests and ventures. He was constantly educating himself. He was a pilot and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 569. He loved the adventure of taking trips around the country. He was a stock trader and he always had his head in a book focusing on his new ventures. One of Chuck's most admired traits is his ability to never ever give up even when others did. Chuck fought cancer bravely and after four years surrendered at home. Chuck is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judith J. (Strathman) Oden of Lincoln, NE; their six children and nine grandchildren, Charles & Amy Oden Jr. and their children Ian & Leah of Golden, CO; Cynthia & Franklin Robbins and their children Gabrielle and Riley of Raymond, NE; Barbara & Jerry Vanderbeek and their children Veronica & Victoria of Lincoln NE; Debora Oden and her children Mila & Leo of Savanna, GA. and Lincoln, NE; Kimberly & Shawn Damratowski of Omaha, NE; and Stephanie & Jeffrey Hellman and their son Jacob of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by his brother Terry Oden. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter & May Belle Oden and his two sisters Mary Peck & Barbara Oden.
