Audrey (Scott) Hunter Obituary (2011)

Former Hastings resident Audrey (Scott) Hunter passed away in her home in Venice FL, on Oct 29th, 2011. Audrey Joanne was born in Anselmo, NE to James A. and Belle (Kellenbarger) Scott. She had an older sister Laura Ruth Williams of Hastings. Her happy childhood and high school years were filled with family events, music, dances, and school plays. A friend taught her how to sew and she spent endless hours practicing. Before her senior year of high school the family moved to Hastings. Audrey quickly made friends and was elected editor of the school paper and was a member of the glee club. She graduated in 1945. After high school she worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings. She met Charles W. Porter, a young Army Air Force service man stationed at Harvard Air Base They were married in 1947 and moved to North Carolina. Upon returning to Nebraska, Audrey worked as a secretary while Chuck finished college and pharmacy school. They had two children, Scott and Joanne. Joanne passed away in 1978 from injuries she received in a car accident. Audrey loved her dearly and missed her every day. In 1964 she married Gilbert Hunter and they moved to Overland Park, KS and then Westlake, OH. She retired after working over 20 years as Vice-President and Member of the Board of The State Chemical Co. She also served on the Boards of the American Heart Assn., and Wigs for Kids Foundation. Audrey's love of travel resulted in many trips over the years. She was a golfer who played by the rules. She had a classic sense of style and design. At one point she turned a small bedroom into a closet (mostly for her shoes). Audrey was that "special" aunt everyone wanted to have. She never seemed to age. In the most recent years she lived in Venice, FL. She will be missed greatly by her devoted and loving fiance John Mullally, and her loving family and many friends.Those of Audrey's family who share her memory are: one loving son, Scott Worth Porter and wife Kathy of New Strawn, KS; Grand-daughters Gretchen Porter and Cassey Varvel of Overland Park, KS; devoted niece Karen Myers of Hastings and nephew James Williams of Juniata; fiance John J. Mullally, of Venice, FL; and Declan MacKinnon Euclid, of Cleveland, OH, who knew her as "Nana" and numerous Great and Great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, and sister. Service Memorial service will be 2:30 p.m., Friday at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating.
